Psych. Karen Weber — Psychologist in Puerto Vallarta

Online Therapy in English, from anywhere in Mexico

I see patients by video call in English and Spanish, from anywhere in Mexico or abroad. Sessions run 50 minutes, the same as in person. This matters especially in Vallarta: your process doesn't have to stop when you go north for the summer.

Online therapy is not a lesser version of the real thing. For most of what I treat in adults, it works. And for the way many people live in Puerto Vallarta, it solves a problem that in-person sessions can’t.

Why this matters here specifically

Vallarta is a seasonal place. A large share of the foreign community spends part of the year somewhere else — north for the summer, back in the fall.

That creates a particular problem for therapy. A process that stops in April and resumes in November isn’t a paused process; it’s two shorter processes with a gap in the middle, and the second one spends its first weeks re-establishing what the first had already reached.

Video sessions remove that break. You leave, we keep going, you come back and we’re where we left off.

Who I work with online

  • Expats anywhere in Mexico. San Miguel de Allende, Mérida, Lake Chapala, Los Cabos, Oaxaca, Tulum. Same clinical work, same languages.
  • Part-year residents of Vallarta, for continuity when you’re away.
  • People in Vallarta who prefer video for reasons of time, mobility, or simply comfort.
  • Couples where one partner travels for work.

Why a Mexican psychologist, if you’re a foreigner in Mexico

There’s a real difference between working with a therapist in your home country by video and working with one who lives where you live.

When you describe dealing with a landlord, an immigration appointment, a medical system you don’t fully understand, or the particular loneliness of a place where most of your friends leave in April — I don’t need those things explained. I’ve lived here since 2010, and before that I built a life in Europe. That context saves a lot of session time.

Practical details

  • Session length: 50 minutes, the same as in person.
  • Languages: English or Spanish.
  • Where: anywhere with a stable connection and a private space.
  • Booking: by WhatsApp. I answer personally and we agree on a time.

If you’d rather come in person, I also see patients at my office in Fluvial Vallarta.

Frequently asked questions

Does online therapy work as well as in person?

For most of what I treat in adults — anxiety, low mood, life transitions, relationship difficulties — the research finds outcomes comparable to in-person work. What matters more than the format is the fit between you and the therapist, and whether you can speak freely. Some situations genuinely need a room; if yours is one, I'll say so.

I spend half the year outside Mexico. Can we continue?

Yes, and this is one of the main reasons I offer it. A lot of people in Vallarta are here part of the year. Interrupting a therapeutic process for six months is not the same as continuing it by video — the work keeps its thread instead of restarting each season.

I'm not in Puerto Vallarta. Can you still see me?

Yes. I work with people across Mexico — San Miguel de Allende, Mérida, Lake Chapala, Los Cabos and elsewhere. If you're a foreigner living in Mexico, there's a specific advantage to working with a Mexican psychologist who speaks English: I understand the system you're navigating from the inside, not from a distance.

What do I need on my end?

A stable internet connection and a place where you can talk without being overheard for 50 minutes. That second part is the one people underestimate — a session in a room where someone might walk in is a different session.

How do we set it up?

Message me on WhatsApp and tell me briefly what's going on and roughly when you're available. I answer personally and we agree on a time and a platform. There's no automated calendar to work through.
